eClips: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is eClips?
State Library eClips provides an environmental scan of news pertaining to the business and operation of Oregon State Government each business day from a selected set of Oregon newspapers.


What are the news sources?
State Library staff currently scans the following news sources daily

  • Portland Oregonian
  • Willamette Week
  • Salem Statesman-Journal
  • Eugene Register-Guard
  • On occasion, relevant stories will be added from other identified sources.


What types of stories are included and omitted in your eClips service?
Stories and editorials are selected in a balanced and unbiased manner from our news sources based upon their content.

The State Library eClips service includes stories and editorials covering:

  • Oregon State Legislature
  • Oregon State agencies
  • Statewide issues
  • Public policy, including initiatives and referendums
  • Federal legislation and policy affecting Oregon

The State Library eClips service does NOT cover:
  • Letters to the editor
  • Stories concerning other states
  • Election coverage (candidate announcements, candidate endorsements, poll results)
  • Partisan Blogs


Who can use this service?
State Library eClips is available to all current state employees with a state email address; however you must be a registered Oregon State Library patron. In order to become a registered patron, please visit:
http://library.state.or.us/register

There is a short form to complete and you will receive your own username and password. You will use that information to subscribe to the eClips service at:
http://library.state.or.us/services/awareness/eclips/

If you are an intern or contractor conducting state business you are also eligible to utilize the State Library. Please contact us at 503-378-8800 and we will process your registration.


How is eClips content delivered to me?
eClips is sent to your state e-mail address daily. Additionally, current and archived eClips content can be accessed at:
http://library.state.or.us//services/awareness/eclips/


I've just subscribed; when will I receive my first eClips mail?
You will receive your first eClips the next business day after you subscribe.


How do I manage my eClips account?
You may subscribe or unsubscribe to the eClips service at:
http://library.state.or.us/services/awareness/eClips/

Just click the appropriate button and click the "Save my preferences" button. It's that easy.


I'd like to track a specific issue nationally or keep up with a newspaper not included in your eClips service. How can I do that?
The Oregon State Library offers access to 900+ newspapers throughout the country. Additionally, you can set-up Current Awareness alerts and relevant stories and editorials will be mailed to you full-text as they are published.

Current Oregon coverage includes 11 sources including: Portland Oregonian, Salem Statesman-Journal, Eugene Register-Guard, Coos Bay World, Bend Bulletin, Klamath Falls Herald & News, Daily Astorian, Blue Mountain Eagle, Wallowa County Chieftain, Capitol Press (Salem).
